Childhood Leukemia ( Blood cancers in children ) treatment in India.


Childhood leukemia ( Blood cancers ) are one of the most common cancers in children and adolescents.

Blood is made of four components:  Red blood cells , white blood cells , platelets and plasma.
Childhood leukemia are the cancers in white blood cells ( Leukocytes ).
The main function of White blood cell is to protect the body against infections and they form the immune system of our body. WBCs flow through the bloodstream to fight viruses, bacteria, and other foreign invaders that threaten one's health.
All blood cells are formed in bone marrow. 
In children with leukemia , abnormal White blood cells are formed in bone marrow in excessive numbers and crowd out the other normal blood cells like red blood cells , normal white blood cells and platelets.
Most of the white blood cells in leukemic children are blast cells or immature White blood cells.

Symptoms of childhood leukemia ( Blood cancers in children ):

The symptoms of leukemia in children could be because of inadequate numbers of Red blood cells , white blood cells and platelets. But these symptoms could be because of other underlying medical conditions and a child having these symptoms must need to see a qualified pediatrician to rule out Leukemia.

 Symptoms due to Inadequate numbers of Red blood cells :

Red blood cells carry oxygen and nutrients to other cells in body and lack of adequate Red blood cells may cause following symptoms.

Symptoms due to inadequate and immature ( blast ) white blood cells :

White blood cells form the immunity in healthy children , an inadequate number of white blood cells may cause following symptoms.


Symptoms due to low number of platelets:

Platelets in blood are responsible for formation of blood clot and stop bleeding. Low number of platelets may cause following symptoms.


As leukemic cells may escape blood stream and enter other tissues because of high number of blast cells in blood , these symptoms may also appear in childhood leukemia patients.


When a doctor suspect the above symptoms could be because of leukemia , he may recommend following investigations to confirm the diagnosis.
